Human Geo

Today we had a pop quiz.  I think I did ok but the only problem was that the X was on different spots of the map and I couldn’t go back to fix my answers because you only gave us 10 seconds.  After that we started taking notes.  We started of with cleisthenes and Democracy.  Cleisthenes defines a member of elite, very rich, insulated from “hoi polli”, he was a crafy politician, saw values into talents, intelligence, and energies.  No women tho.  Also we talked about a new form of government. Citizens could participate but only 1/5 of Athenians were citizens.  Several years, Athens practiced direct democracy.

Today in class we took notes.  You've us a hint that we would be having a pop quiz on the seas that surround Greece but u never gave us hints so it is probably next class.  we learned about Draco and Solon's.  Draco (621 BCE) that all rich and poor are under the law, death is punishment for crimes , and debt slavery is ok.  Solon's  (594 BCE) outlaws debt slavery, all Athenian citizens can speak, and any citizen can press charges against wrongdoing. Draconian means harsh punishments. Agora means where all the people met in Greece to get together. Arete means to do excellence in everything you do. Acropolis is a secure area. Calisthenics ( 500 BCE) allowed all citizens to submit laws for debate.  He created a council go 5 hundred, leading to democracy, only free adults made proper owners born in Athens, and no women, slaves, and "foreigners". Hippias- tyrant who ruled from 527 to 510 BCE his brother was murdered and his rule became harsh.  He ended up gettin

Today in class we did not take that much notes but we did listen to 2 minutes of the book Odyssey.  The only notes we took were on Homer and if he was a real person because he would have had to memorize 2 big stories and was blind so he would of need a lot of help get from town to town.  Also he could of been fake just to make the story more interesting and really it was just passed down by word of moth for generations and generations.  When we listened to the story it was about A man how was trying to get back to his home, wife, and kids but Poseidon was jealous of him and wanted to show everyone he was not as perfect as everyone saw and would try to set him off course. When we were listening he was trapped with the cyclopes and he had already killed 4 of his men and then they finally escaped and got to the boat and then the bell rang.

Today in class we took a test on the 15 counters we learned about.  I studied the governments to but turns out we didn't have to know them.  I also studied the maps and where the countries would be ion them to and we didn't have to know them either.  I thought the test was really easy and I think I could of got a 100% on it.  All we had to know were the presidents, some weird things about them, and what presidents went with what countries.  After the test we were allowed to do any of our homework so I am just going to write my blog so I can pack for Florida when I get home.

Today In class we just went over the slide and you told us we were gonna have a quiz on it tomorrow.  I found it very weird that a lot off the people who were in charge of there country had a brother who was killed.  I also thought it was cool that Syria President was a doctor before and then everything got ruined after his father and his brother died so then he became president.  I didn't like how he dose all those horrible things to his people.  I can't even believe anyone would want to bomb a hospital.  I also thought it was interesting that Kenya has a president that was caught cheating on the election and all they said was red it and didn't change anything.  But I did like when you told use the story about Egypt and how they all stood up to there ruler and made him step down.

Today in class we went over the project we id in class. You showed us your project to make sure our. was right.  Only 1 of my presidents were wrong but we didn't Finish it so that worries me that some of the answers on the test I am not gonna know because we didn't go over them.  There was some really weird president like the one who killed his wife but the covered it up.  Also The Russian president sacred me the most.  When you look him up he is never smiling and he was in the KGB which freaks me out a lot.  I thought it was really interesting to here about all of these kinds of thing and to see how different all the presidents are.
